All right, feel free to dub me totally tech-illiterate for this one, but here goes nothing:
Is the sharpness provided by a resolution you use in an application (game, for instance) dependent on your monitor's native resolution?
For example, many tend to game on the all-powerful 1920x1200 resolution, and it's seen as the top-of-the-line in terms of sharpness and all that.
On the other hand, I have a desktop monitor with a native resolution of 1024x768. Thus, as I game in native resolution all the time, all my games are played at a resolution of 1024x768. The images on max settings are very sharp, essentially just as sharp as those fancy screenshots I see online of people playing in higher-res situations.
Now, if I had a monitor with a native resolution of 1920x1200, or in the case of my NP8662, 1600x1050, what would I see if I tried to game at 1024x768?
Would the images be just as sharp as those I see on my desktop monitor (the one with native 1024x768)? Or would they be poorer? Would I be forced to play @ native 1600x1050 to match the sharpness of my desktop's monitor?
Mostly, I'm wondering if I'll have to cripple performance in order to get image quality to match that of the desktop. (Because at 1024x768, or even 1440x900, the performance of the NP8662 would be much better than at 1600x1050.)

For LCDs, when using a resolution other than your native resolution, you will experience some blurriness, which is most evident on static objects and text.

They would be poorer, blurry as stated by Lithus. In other words most likely you wont like it. I didn't.

Always use native resolution for maximum image sharpness. Thank you.

Yup thats a major reason why CRTs are still superior to LCDs. Once you change LCDs resolution to anything other than native you got a very blurry image.

Hmm , I have a 17" 1920*1200 and for crysis , the lil blur that 1680 * 1050 brings looks good to tell the true.
It's not I prefer it, but 1920 x 1200 it looks sharper , and you notice more angles etc ... I dunno both looks very good to me. under 1680 x 1050 it's getting worse really though.
It also depends a lot on you..
