I wanted to sell my friend a stick of 1gig pc5300 ddr2 that came with my T61p. His computer takes pc533, can we do this with no issues? I tried sticking the stick in my R40.. and that was a nogo because of the notch being off. Will I run into the same on his? He has a modern acer notebook 9040 something i think.

    Thanks

Yes it will run fine on his, tho it might downclock depending on what other ram he has in there.

The reason why it didn't fit in your R40 is because it's so old and it takes a completely different type of ram. They made it that way so that you wouldn't be able to mistakenly put it in where it doesn't belong and fry your computer, which you would've done had they not made the notch slightly off.
