The 830 is 7mm instead of 9.5mm. The laptop kit comes with a spacer. I've been trying to find information about how it fits in larger (9.5) drive bays. One review on Amazon says that the spacer doesn't work well because it raises the drive too much so the screws will no longer align correctly.

I also read somewhere that you don't need the spacer even in larger bays since you just put the screws in and it will stay put fine.

Has anyone any experience with it? I am thinking to purchase a 830, but don't want to find out I can't get it to fit in my drive or that it fits loosely.

It depends more on your drive bay.

For example my current M6600, the hard drive caddy bends and you stick in the hard drive so it snaps into place. In that case you need the spacer.

My old GX640 had screws that screw the drive to the drive bay and thus the spacer would not be required.
