Hello everyone! I recently purchased a 1TB Samsung QVO SSD to replace my 5400 rpm firecuda SSHD in my latop. The store and their site said that this drive will reach 520mb/s writes and 550mb/s reads. Ofc I didnt expect these exact numbers but the drive started writing with 450 mb/s for 3-4 seconds and it plumeted down to a stable 80mb/s. I believe thats worse than my firecuda in terms of write speeds. The read speeds were hovering around 450-490mb/s. Is my drive just problematic or is this a quirk of the exact drive? Thanks for your time

QVO? Sounds about right. The 4TB and higher models will give you the performance you expected.
In addition to a higher quality, TLC and MLC drive, of course.
There is no way your 5400 RPM laptop drive approached those speeds (sustained).Ilias_mcleg likes this. -

The QVO drive keeps part of its NAND flash as a cache that allows the speeds to stay where you expect. When the cache is full, such as when transferring a large amount of data, speeds will drop as you have seen. In the case of the QLC flash memory the QVO drive uses, around 80 MB/s is not unusual. Higher capacity drives have a larger cache, so they will be able to go longer before the speed drops.
