Let me start by saying that I'm sure that this thread is in the wrong place, so any mods may feel free to move it and my apologies in advance.
I am going to school for IT, and I am getting to the point where I am going to need to run a couple VMs. As such, I am buying a notebook that can handle that task (the one in my sig). My question is, what kind of resources to VMs take up? I know CPU and RAM of course, but how much of each per VM? I know that there is no concrete answer, and I haven't seen any tests of VMs being run on Sandy Bridge yet, but any help would be appreciated.

pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
Hard drive space too. I run a few on my sig rig (XP, Ubuntu, One that rymes with "Hack toe ex then") and they all run great. Just set it all up correctly, RAM, CPU, and you should be good. VMWare is what I use.

I think it will depend most on what VM you are using (i.e. win 7 will be different from win XP, etc...)

Depends what you're using to run the VMs but generally you can manually allocate your computer's resources to each VM.
VMs will use/need the same resources that any computer would need so that means CPU, RAM, HDD and GPU. -
if your just planing to run a few (less then 4) i have had no issues running 3-4 on my i5... i do wish i had some more ram (8gb should be enough) so i could give about 1-1.5gb to my Ubuntu machines

Quad-core CPU + 8GB RAM and you'll be fine.

Which I have. Awesome, thanks. I knew I was set, but it really helps to hear it from people with more knowledge on the subject. Thanks.
