Hi all, the Dell technical page for the D630 says a floppy drive is an optional extra, but there doesn't seem to be any available bay to install one on my laptop.. Would it have to replace the cd drive or something?
If so, would any 'series D' floppy drive be ok? That's mostly what people are calling them on Ebay.

    Thanks for your time,
    mounty

I had a D630, and I never saw no space or slot for a floppy drive..!!
It must be a USB floppy drive..!!

There may be a special FDD module that goes into the optical drive bay. However, the most versatile (and probably the cheaper)solution is a USB FDD. Are you want to read some old floppies or boot from floppy disc?

Check if the BIOS supports USB as a boot device. I'm sure it does since USB support got coded into the standard BIOS at the time when floppy disk drives stopped being integral parts of notebooks.

However, anything you can put on a bootable floppy you can also put onto a bootable CD (I keep a few CD-RWs for this purpose) or there are ways to make a flash drive bootable (but I've never done it).
