I was wondering if screen type have "standards". By that I mean, if you have, for example, a 15.4'' laptop, can it accept any (or most) 15.4'' screens?
Thanks.

what's your 'real' question? Do you have something broken that needs to be fixed?

Most laptop LCD screens use the LVDS port. I theory, you can hotswap them.

Not really. I'm just looking to change my laptop and manufacturers seem to have abandoned those good old WSXGA+ screens.
-
I would think some laptops now use a standard connector to hook up the LCD..
^edit: I type sloww and what jackluo923 wrote above, except I'm not sure about the swapping cables when the computer is being powered.
I was able to install a 14" LCD from a Benq into my Dell Inspiron 6400 (15.4") using the cables that were already there.
The screen works perfectly (but will crash autodetect in ubuntu) but the inverter is the wrong one, and so the screen is quite dark.. -

I can tell you from experience it might not be as easy as plug n play. I had a hunch the connectors might have some standardization, so on a whim I got a nice RGB LED screen to replace the dismal CCFL on my Thinkpad. The screen came with the inverter board, but every connection was different: power, inverter cables, motherboard, etc.
Some of this (the power to the inverter cable, at least) I think is due to it being LED and not CCFL.
I definitely recommend researching the specifics. I never did get a reply from ScreenTek, who might have warned me. You might try them though, LCD screens are their specialty. -
I used a toshiba 15.4 inch LCD in an HP dv8000 that requires a 17 inch screen. As long as the inverter works i say yes you can do it. Also " Picture or it didnt happen "

Omg.I cannot believe that.
