I want to have a multimonitor setup from my laptop. My graphics card is an NVIDIA 8400M GS.

    1) Will my monitor connect via HDMI port to another computer monitor for use on an extended desktop (assuming of course an HDMI or DVI plug on the monitor, not an HDTV or anything, just a computer monitor)?

    2) Would I be able to use the VGA and HDMI ports in conjunction with one another for an extended monitor set-up? I know the RAMDACs support 2 monitors, but I don't know how HDMI fits into this scheme and I sometimes want to connect two 24" monitors to the laptop instead of using just one extended monitor and the 17" screen on the laptop.

    Thank you in advance.

HDMI doesn't use the RAMDACs it's all about the TMDS, the sVideo out would use the other RAMDAC.

And yes you should be able to run DVI and VGA/DB-15 simultaneously.

The main thing will be how it has been configured in the control panel.

It is only a little different but I meant to write...

    1) Will my LAPTOP connect via HDMI port to another computer monitor for use as an extended screen?

And with regards to the comment above, I realize that it should work, but I guess what I am really asking is if anyone has tried it and had success setting up an extended screen wherein one monitor was plugged in via HDMI and the other was plugged via VGA. I know that the HDMI will allow me to clone my notebook screen, but I actually need the HDMI to extend my desktop and my first choice pick for next laptop hinges critically on this info. I actually contacted tech support and they said the same thing, it should work, but I don't really want to lay down over a grand without knowing in advance if the computer meets my very specific needs.

Now in the meantime I have searched more and it seems like I have found a guy that actually did it so it might be a moot question, but I still love to hear testimony or opinions regarding this possibility because returning a computer ordered over the internet would be something of a pain.

I do that with my Fujitsu via the HDMI port, but it's an HD2600 VPU & Control Panel, so I'm not sure what nV's nView restrictions are, but if windows recognizes it and nView gives you problems then I would recommend using a 3rd party app like UltraMon.

nView and Hydravision have improved greatly where 3rd party apps aren't as necessary, but if either you're serious about your multi-mon support or have troubles withthe bundled apps, then stuff like UltraMon are worth looking into.
