No, it only supports SATA 1. But, you can put a SATA 2 hard drive in it, it will just run at SATA 1.

I've owned 1 or 2 and look up the chipset/SATA port it uses. Don't worry, it SATA 1 for sure. But, like I said, a SATA 2 hard drive will work, just at SATA 1 speed(150MBPS).

There are no 2.5" 9.5mm HD that are larger than 750GB right now.

That link is for a 12.5mm 2.5" HD and will not fit in most notebooks.

I would recommend the Scorpio Blue 500GB and for a (much) faster version: the Hitachi 7K500 500GB HD.

For about double the money of the two I suggest above, the Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid 500GB should be the fastest you can put in your computer, if speed is your concern.

If it's all about capacity, then the Seagate 640GB model is faster than the WD Scorpio Blue 640GB model.

    Good luck.

    What about the Seagate Momentus 750 GB ? It's faster than 640 (7200 RPM) and it's a 9.5 mm

Unless the 750GB is also a Hybrid like the 500GB XT is, I can almost bet it will be slower (data too densely packed and heads have to be super precise to find specific track = slower, overall O/S experience).

Besides, afaik these are only available for pre-order right now.

So, what do you want? Best compromise of Capacity (640GB Seagate) or ultimate (non-SSD) Speed (500GB XT)?

Well, even the 640 GB Seagate will be faster than the stock 160 GB in my Satellite, correct?

I currently have 160 GB internal and an external 500 GB, almost full. I definitely need the extra space.

Correct, the 640GB Seagate will be faster than the stock 160GB.
