I know that my model is the 1.066ghz, however, when I go to Thinkpad>system details>advanced>processor details, I get current speed = 733mhz. This can't be right and if it is, how can I change it back to being faster than a gig? I made sure that processor performance was set to highest under power management. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance :)

You need to post more information when asking such a question. Howver your processor powers down to save battery life, e.g. SpeedStep and Cool n Quiet are both designed for this feature. Your CPU speeds up when needed.

If you download a utility called RMClock, you will see how your CPU dynamically adjusts its speed based on the workload you throw at it. This is a good thing and does not affect your performance in applications or games.
