I like the matte looking screens, but it seems everywhere I went shopping
everyone is carrying the "glossy" kinds of screens. Is there some type of
aftermarket product you can buy to make it look less shiny???

Hello, are you looking for a customize computer (directly from the manufacturer) or pre-made computer (like Best Buy, CC, Staples, etc)? If premade, yeah, I rarely seen matte screen in stores. However, you should able to customize the screen directly from manufacturer's site.

Stick to your guns, don't buy glossy. If you can already tell in stores that you don't like it, you'll hate it in your everyday life.

Check out business-line machines from Lenovo, HP or Dell. Or if those are too expensive, you can configure Dells without glossy screens on their Web site. Or check out the Lenovo consumer series models at Office Depot. Those are not glossy.

One day this fad will pass and manufacturers will return to building more useable notebooks. Until then, you still have options.

I have heard of services out there that would re-finish your screen from matte to glossy or vice-versa. Don't know much beyond that though. Another option would be a privacy filter that may create more of a matte look on a glossy screen.

But I agree that you should just try to find a system that offers a matte screen. I think you'd be happiest that way.

if you look at the "business" lines of computers you will have more matte options.

    Thanks everyone,
I'm still trying to figure out which ones I am looking for,
would for instance Dell, just say XGA or WXGA,
with Toshiba, would it be anything that doesnt say "trubrite"?
