I want to put my 320GB HDD in my Sony Vaio VPCEC290X into an HP Pavillion 6700 and a seagate momentus XT into my Sony Vaio VPCEC290X
Will this work? Do I need any cables or anything like that?

Generally all 2.5 sata HDDS are interchangeable, they will just swap out.
also, if your re- installing windows then it should work out just fine, but if you try to run the installation of windows from the previous machine (ie, running the Windows install that was on the Viao on the HP) it will BSOD on boot. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Modern OS (Vista/7) shouldn't BSOD but it will mess with Windows activation. Or are you just talking about a physical swap and reimaging the drive?
XP will BSOD 99.9% of the time. -
I'll be wiping and throwing windows 7 back on.
As soon as I get my Momentus XT I'll be putting the 320GB drive into the HP. I just want to make sure it will actually fit. -
Ok well this isn't good. The hard drives are NOT interchangeable but I've already ordered my seagate XT.
The HP HDD is like... spiky? That's the way it connects. So do I do?
edit: If someone could tell me interface it is... thanks.

That's the HP drive. It says it's sata. So why the weird interface? I need to somehow get my Sony drive in there.
edit2: I see the spike part is removable...

So basically I have these questions:
What's that spikey interface?
What's the thing in my sony that goes from the hard drive to wherever, it's an orange looking very thing/ wide adapter.
Am I going to be able to transfer them? -
Usually hard drives are connected to laptops by... connectors (adapters). All you need is unscrew 4 phillips screws.
Question about swapping hard drives between Sony/HP laptops
