I have an e1705 with the Core Duo 1.83. Dell told me it wasn't capable of being upgraded to the Core 2 Duo. Is that true, or is Dell just trying to get me to buy another machine ?

Can any one post a link, or give me a quick step by step on installing one of these. I have worked on laptops before, but not on one of these.

It is possible, but will void your warranty. You need to obtain a c2d chip and the newest BIOS revision for the e1705. Then you can just switch out the proccessors. It is kind of a pain to take apart the laptop to get at the guts of it. Dell has manuals on their website guiding you step-by-step. In all honesty, you probably don't need to worry about updating--it would likely show you no noticeable improvement. Also, it's pretty hard to get a Merom chip at the moment.

I know the performance will probably not be noticeable, but I am an addict, and if it can be done................
