I would like to know what the term overclocking means. What are the advantages/disadvantages to overclock a notebook? How is it done? I am planning to get a Dell 1520. Should I overclock that machine? Thanks.

For a basic primer on overclocking from Wikipedia, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overclocking

You can't overclock the 1520 by any easy means.
I have taken my 1520 to 300MHz faster...but it throttles to the 6x multiplier and so far I havn't had the time to take it apart again.
Basically if you don't know anything about overclocking, you shouldn't be doing what I'm doing -- opening the whole thing up -- doing pinmods and VID mods.
In short -- No you cant. -
In even shorter, yes you can.
Is it really beneficial tho compared to the risks? That's debatable. But whether or not you can that is not, because it certainly is possible. -
For the love of god, don't do it. You don't sound like you have enough experience with computers and I don't want you back on this forum two weeks later asking for help for your fried GFX card, Processor, or Mobo.
