Ok, So I ordered a Dell 6400 (e1505?) and there was a special for a 1 gig upgrade free from 512.

I took it, but now I'm wondering, Is it gonna be painfully slow if I don't get a 2nd chip to pair it with?

With regards to pairing it, is any old 1gig RAM (at the same speed 533) ok to put in?

Also, will my warranty be void?

No, it will not be painfully slow without a 2nd chip to pair with it. IGB is plenty enough for most applications.

Yes, any old 1GB stick (533MHz) can be put in.

Dell usually respects warranty on the other components...I'm not sure about this though.

I think that upgrade from Dell is two 512Mb sticks.

Yes, ur 1gig will consist of two(2) 512mb sticks, so thus you already have a second stick. Also, if u want to upgrade to more, you have to remove one of them obviously.

And replacing ram is not something that voids ur warranty on the system itself. Obviously dell will not be responsible for the new ram, but that warranty will come from the manufacturer.

On my printed system specification it says:
Which was the only reason I was thinking of getting the extra gig, well, that and vista.
