Please help me, or at least give me some insight.
I own a HP nw8440, which screen resolution is 1920x1200.
Recently i thinking of getting myself a large monitor (24 or 27inch Dell) to put on my desk for easier reading, and some graphics editing...
But my laptop only have VGA output, my question is...would it be possible to run the monitor without problem?
My other solution is buy a docking station which have a DVI output...but budget not enough...
I wouldn mind to suffer a bit of softness on screen, but if it is too severe, i think i would just forget about this...
Help Please.!

You can look at the specs of your video card on the HP site, which should tell you that you can drive an external monitor up to like 2500*2100 or so res.
Any gpu will be able to drive a 2D desktop just fine, even at high resolutions. -
my laptop screen display 1920x1200 without any problem.
my graphic card is ati firegl v5200, support even larger than 1920x1200.
but i cant find any information about the vga output able to drive an external monitor...
what do u think?
or anyone have experience? -
VGA doesn't matter, your card will be more than enough to drive much higher resolutions than your laptop's lcd. Like I said before, any gpu can drive a 2D desktop, that is not something that takes a lot of power.

adinu: There's still a limit on the available bandwidth (1920x1200 is a lot of pixels to send ever 1/60 second), which is what he's asking about.
But yeah, you can run that resolution over VGA without a problem. (Since an LCD only runs 60hz. With my CRT, I can run the same resolution at 85hz, and that's a limitation of the monitor, not the VGA connection. So you should be fine. -
so my conclusion is...positive.
thanks all for your post.
dell 24inch, i m coming!!
