I have never buy or sell a laptop on Ebay so this is kind of new to me.

When selling or buying laptops on ebay, the transferrability of the warranty rests with the actual receipt or the registered owner or the serial number?

For example, if I am a seller do I need to provide the actual receipt or merely the registered serial number? Or would the buyer actually change the ownership him/herself through some personal information from me?

How about as a buyer from Ebay? What would I want to request for proof of warranty from the seller?

    Thanks

i think it depends on the company. i know that for DELL the warranty is on the notebook itself and not the initial owner. for others like Alienware the warranty is not transferable. i'm sure it's transferable on most major notebook manufacturers. it's likely they'll use the computer unit # for warranty and not your receipt.

I know that for Apple laptops, the standard warranty is one year from date of purchase, so I would request a copy of the original receipt, if available. If AppleCare was already purchased for it, there should be further information available for that. Also, Apple tends to be good about pulling up information on the laptop based on the serial number alone.
