What kind of processors will work on this chipset? Will penryn work?
What is the difference between Intel® GL960 and Intel® GL960 Express?
Thanks

Socket P. From other posters Penryn should work as Merom C2dD do, there can be BIOS issues but chipset should. I didn't know there was a GL960 that was not Express? Where are you getting that there is a difference? Are you sure they did not just drop the Express word?

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Lol, GL960. Yeah, it supports Socket P. Officially it only supports Socket P Celerons and Pentium Dual-Cores, but many people have successfully upgraded to 667MHz FSB and occasionally 800MHz FSB C2Ds. I haven't heard of anyone dropping Penryns into GL960 machines, but I'm guessing it'd probably work seeing as how things are going with the faster C2Ds.

powerpack, sorry, my fault. I thought theyre 2 different chipsets.
What should i go for if i wanna play it safe? Processor i mean. -
go for a Merom Socket P CPU. 667FSB. If you really want to play it safe.

I agree with goofball as far as playing it safe. I have read of 800Mhz FSB CPU's working and not working so that is a risk. Now would be the time to ask what notebook you have, as some have known issues an others have no problems. Might give better insight in how to proceed.

I have Asus G1S, but im looking for a smaller laptop. The laptops ive been looking at have different chipsets.
-
Your Asus has X3100 GPU?
-
My Asus G1S have 8600.
Im looking at other laptops with the 960 chipset, some of those have the X3100. Like Asus X80 and Asus A8LE. Theyre sold here in Asia. Both have GM965 chipset. But ive been looking at some Acers also with the 960 chipset.
