Does charging a new battery many hours more once it hits 100% hurt it or help it nowadays?

Most notebooks stop charging the battery at 100% and let it drop back to a bit before charging again. That said multiple charges can be bad for the battery, but my old laptop lasted almost 7 years plugged in most of the time fine, battery wasn't so hot anymore for the last 2-3 years (maybe 2/3rds the run time of original) but it never failed.

Didn't seem to cause any issues for me. I've seen people say things to the contrary though, so maybe some other people can weigh in with opinions.
