i have a quick question. I just recently got a fujitsu S6210 that currently has 40gig 4200rpm HD. I want to upgrade the HD and i was looking at newegg and they have a 40gig 7200rpm hitachi travelstar HD. However, hitachi doesnt even have the hd on its website. I feel that i have no use for a 60gig. So i wanted to compare the two hd, but i cant find any reviews for it. So i was wondering how come hitachi doesnt have the 40gig on its website, and if anyone had experiences w/ it?

That 40 gig version is the extended version, which is designed for constant use like in blade servers. I recommend the 60 gig version because it is designed for laptops, and suited for intermittent use.

In the past, I've said the same thing as Andrew, that they were not designed for intermittant notebook use with many on/off cycles. However I've just been reading over the spec. and both types are speced at 300K on/off cycles, same power and acoustics. So I would say go for the hitachi 40GB 7200 rpm. I would not get it from newegg though. The reason is from them it is an OEM drive that only has a 1 year warranty for a cost of $121, if you buy from www.zipzoomfly.com the warranty is 3 years for a cost $123. So you get two more years of warranty for only two dollars more.

so.. i finally decided and got the hitachi 60 gig 7200rpm. hahhaha (it took me like 3 months) lol... anyways.. man is it sure i big difference from what i had... anways... got a couple of questions. First.. is it suppose to be "louder" than my original hd? because i can hear the HD spinning [though its only a small hum, like a fan is on] and click noise when i access data. And since my old fujitsu harddrive is going into an external case, how do i unpartition the harddrive? since fujitsu partitioned it for me.

The sounds your hear are normal so don't worry about that. If you want to get rid of the partition on your old drive you can reformat it, just make sure you get everything off that drive that you need. Go to control panel, then Administrative Tools, then Computer Management. Click storage, then click disk management, from here you can reformat the external drive. Good luck.
