My laptop had 2 1GB sticks of Corsair Ram. I am running XP 32 bit. One of them died on me, and I was wondering whether or not I should go with 3 GB of RAM, or since its almost the same price for 2 of the 2GB sticks, just go with 4 GB, even though it wont all be recognized.

Was also wondering if the 2X2GB would be better because of Dual Channel.

You can return your memory card to Corsair, and they will give you a new one. It takes about 1-2 weeks for a new card to get back to you.
You can go to 3 or 4gb of memory. Dont worry about dual channel, it really does not offer any significant performance differences.
I would say get your memory card repaired. Afterwards sell both your 1Gb modules, and go for a 2x2gb kit. a 2x2gb memory kit is really cheap, like less than $50, so the upgrade will be well worth it if your using xp or vista.

All of the above + Corsair may have an advanced RMA option to get you RAM sooner, then you send in your old stick. May be useful to you if you normally utilize the full 2GB.

unless you have some ultra-high PC config and running
some demanding application, dual channel means nothing.

Thanks :) I already threw away the bad stick, I didnt realize I had a lifetime warranty on the sticks that come with a laptop. Im just going to get the 2X2GB Corsair sticks from Amazon for like 38 dollars. My friend needs the 1GB Stick more than I do...poor guys running XP on 512MB :(

Only if drivers become easier to get for my Compal. Couldnt get half my stuff to work when I tried the beta.
