getting a notebook with 1gb (512x2) and upgrading it to 2gb. Now, would it be better to buy a 2gb stick or kit? The kit for dual channel, and the stick for future upgrades.
    2.5gb Single Channel or
    2.0gb Dual Channel?
    -thanks

honestly in this case its a tie.

dual channel is a very small boost, not something you will even notice if you suddnly turned it off.

at the same time only 500mb more memory isnt too much and 2gb is a already good point to be at.

You should overall have equal performance with both. If your doing somthing that requires more memory the 2.5gb will run smoother, for anything that doesnt need the memory the dual channel will run it ever so slightly faster.

ah, well it seems that the pros of the 2.5gb outweighs the dual channel. I do plan to game on my dv9500t's 8600m gs, but i want to mobile editing with vegas, photosop, indesign, and other high-memory intensive apps. Plus, the ability to upgrade to 4gb later if i get a 64bit OS will be nice.

The Intel platforms and CPUs benefit from Dual Channel RAM, so I say go with the two sticks

hrm, this is quite the problem now. As it's 20-30 bucks more for a single stick as opposed to dual channel, however, after consideration, i'll get the 2x 1gb because later i can add a 2gb stick and bring it up to 3 if i start to run out of ram and keep my dual channel for the time being
