Which HP model is it and roughly how old is it?

Here's the link to the HP Support site- http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=support&jumpid=in_R329_prodexp%2Fhhoslp%2Fsplit%2Fsupport
There you can find very specific troubleshooting instructions to help you track down the source of your problem.

If you determine that it may be the AC Adapter, Best Buy sells them for most HP models built in the last few years. They cost between $60 and $80 normally. KEEP YOUR RECEIPT! If the new AC adapter doesn't take care of the issue, Best Buy will let you return it within 30 days for a refund.

I just had a similar issue with a Pavilion dv9000t that I bought in 5/07 and sold to a friend in 12/07. It acted like it was booting for about 4-5 seconds then just froze. It turned out to be the motherboard....so it was a goner! But I tried a new power source and, thankfully, was able to return it when it didn't fix the problem! :D

It's an HP DV6000. I dont know why i have such an issue with laptops. If this was a desktop i'd simply replace the mobo after testing the pwr supply. Nor mally if I hink along the lines of a desktop  It's either the mobo or cpu but the fact it still lights up freaks me out lol.

This is what I have so far.

    1. It's not the inverter or video
    2. The fan in the laptop is not spinning
    3. You have the illumination hp puts on these models lighting up and the HD clicks a few times like the heads are spinning up. And that is it

I spoke with another tech in town he says it's either the cpu $600 or motherboard. lol i guess I flip a coin to see which lol. Again  from my experience with desktops, the cpu is normally not the issue it's the mobo thats dead but, with a laptop and the expense involved I dunno guys. What do you think?

HP Pavilions as a product line seem to suffer a high rate of motherboard failures. The first generation of the dv6000t and dv9000t, in particular, seem to be the models whose motherboards are most likely to die. The dv6500t and dv9500t and later models don't seem nearly as prone to this issue, but maybe they're just not old enough yet? Around 18-months seems to be the average...which really sucks considering that the dv9000t I mentioned earlier cost almost $1500 new!

I orderd a new dv7t back in the summer when they were initially introduced. I ended up sending it back for a refund after only four days because of several problems (overheating, obscenely loud fan that never kicked off, some build-quality issues). After that experience and now with the dv9000t dying after 18-months, I think I'm ready to wash my hands of HP altogether!

HP is dead to me, from this moment forward! Exception- I'll probably end up with a Mini-Note 2140 eventually. =) Actually the 2140 is an HP Business product.....only HP Consumer products are dead to me! lol

I knew when I wrote the basic model number I needed to get the specifics...so my bad. The model is dv6227cl. Thanks for the input guys. Any repair guides and pdfs you know of would be helpful as it appears I will be replacing the motherboard :(

*Edit* Whoa!! Bog I just checked out that link you posted and it looks like this laptop qualifies. LOL you may have just pulled my fat out of the fire LOL. There should be a site on the internet for warranty stuff like this! It save people money

It would appear that your model falls under HP's warranty enhancement, which offers a longer warranty:

You could send your laptop to HP for a free repair, if it's still eligible.
