    Hi

My notebook (Acer Aspire 9302) has broken both hinges on the monitor. The plastic has come away from the inside back of the monitor casing...

Anyway what I'm wondering is, if the worst happens and the monitor fails on me while I'm saving up for my Vostro can I use the VGA output to output the picture to an external monitor?

Or would it be the case that once the monitor dies on me the notebook will no longer boot up at all?

It's kind of bothering me because the monitor is just kind of hanging on literally by the screws and a couple of other bits and pieces...

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

If the monitor and just the monitor dies, the machine should still function properly, just like a desktop without a screen. You should almost certainly be able to hook up an external monitor and run it like a desktop.

Yes, you can simply use the external output vga port to use the system.
I would actually recommend starting this now, so that you do not break your acer laptop. I recommend this cause if two wires short cause the hinge is loose, then you are going to fry your screen, and maybe cause a short to the motherboard.
