I am looking to upgrade my 4200rpm drive to a 7200. I need one that is really cool and quiet, the emphasis being on cool. If anyone could point me to some good drives that would be great.

    Thanks,
    Rafik

I currently have this hard drive in my notebook its awsome, you can download a driver (actually a boot cd) to configure the silent technology in your hd to three different noise levels. If you have a version of the Compaq v2000 i think that I had the same 4200 pos hard drive that you do, this 7200 runs much cooler, so does the Western Digital version of it but its just more expensive, and a bit hotter running. Hope this helps ya out.

That may be true in some cases, but I would still reccomend Hitachi, I have had experience with WD and Hitachi in my notebook, and 2 WD's, a Toshiba, and a Seagate in desktop pcs. Overall for desktop pc's I think that the hd's are very comparable and WD is the best for the money. With notebooks I think WD, Toshiba, and Hitachi come out on top, being about even. I prefer Hitachi because you get a heck of a lot more for the money than the other brands. But hey if you like the idea of spending more, thinking it means better quality, by all means get an expensive brand. IMO There all very similar.
