Sorry, this isnt a notebook question, but this is the only computer forum I belong too, hopefully it wont be deleted. If it does, I understand.
Can any of you suggest a quiet power supply for a desktop? This box will be in the living room next to the TV and it currently hums just a bit too much for my taste. Hoping the power supply is the culprit.
thanks

There is a desktop section too on this forum, http://forum.notebookreview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1022
Can't you just get any of those PSU's that'' fanless with heatpipes or such? -
For some reason it looks as if I dont have access to post there. -
their are a few fanless power supplies, but I would stay away from those, I would be afraid of the power supply catching fire.
If you power supply is loud, you may want to just upgrade the fan to a high performance, really quiet fan. It is pretty easy to do. Just match voltage and size and you are ready to go.
Antec makes pretty quiet power supplies. They lie about wattage, so a 480 wat psu of their really outputs 360 watts, thus they can mark the power supply with a huge wattage, and run a fan at really low rpms.

Seasonic S12 series.

Make sure that it's the fan in the power supply, if you listen closely, you should be able to tell which fan is making the noise.
The fan in my old desktops PSU makes the computer sound like huge server when it's running, lol.
