I'm looking for a very quiet hard drive, anything over 120gb and 5400 rpm is fine, 7200 is fine. Can anyone recommend the best brand for the quietest HD, within a reasonable price?

this 120gig Western Digital Scorpio from newegg should be a good, silent HD for you. my philosophy with hard drives is that if it's western digital, you can't go wrong
and for $70, it's a steal too.

I would recommend the Hitachi Travelstar 5K250 0A52124 160GB SATA 5400 RPM 8MB Mobile Hard. I have one of these in my lenovo T61, only mine has the encryption, which I think is a waste of money, but it is whisper quiet.
Zipzoomfly has it for $92, they dont charge tax or shipping, unlike newegg, which will charge you 5-7 for shipping. The 160gb 5400rpm drive will perform like a 7200rpm drive because of its high gb density.
I have had problems on every wd I have ever owned. 3 yr ago I stopped buying from them and I have never had any problem with Hitachi.

Might want to check out SilentPCreview.com.
Quietest, reasonable priced HD.
