This past week I've been going back and forth between HP's (2500t or nc6400), Dells (D630 or Insp1420), and Lenovo (T61).
I doubt the quietness of the keyboard and clicker buttons will be a clinching factor but maybe it will be of some help. My college library is going to be extremely quiet, and it is large and cavernous.
My ideal clicker buttons would be soft volume but large (easier on the wrists). The Dell Inspiron 8200 I use now has great oversize clicker buttons, but they are obnoxiously loud.
Thoughts?

The nc6400 has the quietest trackpad buttons by far. The Dell's are okay, but are a bit more "clicky".
The nc6400 is an awesome laptop BTW. -
The touchpad keys are often not very audible nowadays, but they still retain a solid click if you use it. Library use will be fine, it won't be obnoxiously loud, the touchpad keys. It's usually the keyboard that makes majority of the sound.
If anything, you can always double tap the touchpad to emulate a click. -
That is a good point, the double-touch function. I hope the keyboards of the models I listed are also relatively inaudible. I am leaning towards the nc6400 I think... I wonder how large their trackpad buttons and touchpad are as compared tothe other models.
Quietness of Keyboard/Clicker Buttons?
