I've preordered this laptop. Expected delivery (if all goes to plan) on the 1st November. So I have two weeks to source additional components to upgrade the internals! :)

    RAM:

I'm going to upgrade the RAM as it is only single channel 1x8GB preconfigured (booo!). I plan to add another 8GB DDR3L 1600MHz stick - will this one be compatible?

    SSD:

I'll purchase the Samsung 850 Pro 1TB drive to replace that preconfigured HDD, as we all know once you go SSD you can never go back! I was also wondering whether it was worth buying another 128GB mSATA SSD to RAID with the preconfigured drive? Would it be better to have the OS installed on the big SSD or the mSATA(s)?

    Cheers!

Generally RAID is done with identical disks (make, model, size). You can add the mSATA and use that for the OS, if you want, but the 1TB drive will have plenty of space.

I've read this article which suggests that RAID isn't really worth it. So I won't bother with another mSATA and will just get the Samsung 850 Pro 1TB drive.

Would it be worth moving the OS over to the bigger/faster SSD or would it be more wise to simply leave the OS on the mSATA drive?
