First time making my own thread so please dont flame me for making a dumb question.

Im looking to buy a new laptop, preferably something that will last me for the next 5 years for gaming. I was just wondering what the difference between DDR2 and DDR3, and is it worth getting DDR3 over DDR2. Also, is a 3GB dual channel DDR3 better than a 4GB dual channel DDR2?

    Thanks

I've read up on it now, and it looks to me that in the long run, DDR3 would be better. I'm planning on keeping this laptop for 5 years, and i would like to upgrade my laptop components if need be. Should I get the DDR3 if I'm looking for a laptop that will last me a long time? Or is there still virtually no difference between the two.

If you find a laptop you truly like, buy it whether it has DDR2 or DDR3. There are other more important influences on system performance than RAM speed. :)

    I got a 2GB DDR3 stick for only $28 shipped from Newegg.com last week.

I'd say the price is quite low if you order it and install it yourself.

The price difference is continually shrinking. I'd agree with BobXX - consider the other factors, and when you decide on a laptop, get it regardless of whether it uses DDR2 or DDR3. There won't be much, if any, difference.
