    Hello,

I have a RAM Memory upgrade question...

For my new DELL ALIENWARE M17X - R4 laptop... will this RAM Memory work well???

    CMSX16GX3M2A1866C10 - Scan.co.uk

It is an Alienware M17X - R4 running Windows 8 (64 bit Pro) as the OS.

It currently has 16GB but I want to upgrade it to 32GB for Video and Picture editing purposes and the occasional gaming too!

Would this RAM Memory work well or is there better out there?
    CMSX16GX3M2A1866C10 - Scan.co.uk

    Thank you.

first check if the ram is in only 2 slots, if not, you will need 2 sticks of those.

also you have to pay attention on the speed of the ram that you already have, otherwise paying more for the 1866mhz will go for nothing

I'm fairly certain (guessing) that your notebook will have 4 SoDIMM slots for RAM - I would be buying two of those kits you've linked if you want 32GB of the fastest setup possible.

The system only officially supports 1600MHz (PC3-12800) SoDIMMs - but contrary to the poster above - I have found better quality RAM is worth it (to me). Even in systems much less capable than what you're sporting.

    Good luck.

Im not saying that quality ram is not worth it, Im saying that if the s/he has ram at 1333/1600mhz (which is not only quite possible but more probable) it will clock the ram that s/he will buy to those clocks.

and yes the m17x r4 has 4 sodimm slots

    Many thanks guys!!!!

Is accessing the secondary RAM slots (the ones under the keyboard) on an ALIENWARE M17X - R4..... EXACTLY the same as for an R3 ???

I need to put in some more RAM into the secondary slots... and found this video on YouTube.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEC1U1WqG5Y

Unfortunately all the videos for this are for the ALIENWARE M17X R3.

Is this process and the location of all the screws etc etc the EXACT same on the M17X - R4 model???

Do you HAVE to disconnect the cables/wires on the underside of the keyboard or is it doable with the cables and wires in place but someone holding the keyboard for you???

    Many thanks!!!
