Hello all, I just recently bought a new Sony Vaio, but purposely chose 1 GB of DDR2 800 ram so that I could upgrade it to 4 GB myself. The problem I have now is, looking through various RAM's online, I see that there are two types of pin configurations for DDR2 800/PC6400 RAM: 240 and 200.
My question is, does anyone know which one I should be using? The model of my Sony is SR190 if that helps at all. Thank you in advanced.

your system uses sodimm memory which means you can use 200 pin memory cards:
Any of these will work:

I recommend getting these memory cards, they are great. I have this set and it performs very well.

no problem, we are here to help.
Just remember to keep you original memory, in case your system has a problem.
You will need to put the original memory back in your system, in case you ever need to send your system back to Sony.
Good luck with the memory upgrade.
Just make sure to fill out the rebate form properly. You need to include the UPC, a copy of the newegg receipt, and the form which is on the link I gave you. Just download the file and fill it out, and send all of this in an envelope to OCZ.

For some reason, the rebate form would not load for me. I don't know if its just my computer or somethings wrong with their site.

do you have adobe acrobat installed on your computer?
You need adobe pdf to load the pdf.
Click the pdf symbol on the newegg page to load the pdf.
If it doesnt load on your system, try loading the webpage on another system. You may have popups blocked, causing the file not to show.

OK, nevermind. I guess their site was just a bit slow. I just left the window open, and it finally loaded.
I was also curious, I don't know if this is even an issue, but what is the preferred time for me to install the RAM? Should I do this before my first power-up, or after? -
You should power the system up before installing the new memory to insure that the system works before upgrading.
Than after it boots, you can shut the system off and install the new memory.
remember when upgrading your memory, unplug the ac power, remove the main battery and make sure you are grounded, so you do not cause any static buildup on the memory cards. The static electricity can kill the memory cards.
