Just ordered the Compaq V2000z (Turion ML-37).
I ordered with the default 256MB PC2700 RAM and have 2 questions before upgrading.
    1. In terms of performance only what would be better: 1.28GB PC2700 or 1.02GB PC3200.
    2. Is there a performance difference between 1 Stick of 1GB to 2 Sticks of 512Mb.

    Thanks!

i've heard that due to dual channel architecture, having 2 sticks is better than 1. But if you plan to upgrade again, then having 1 GB stick is worthwhile for not wasting a second stick. If 1 GB is enough, get 2 sticks of 512, IMHO.

a month or 2 ago there was a number of post here about this computer and the dual channel issue (ie: ram speed stepping down when 2 sticks were installed). You might want to research that.

get 1 stick...of 1GB....and BELIEVE ME!! ride it out until upgrade time comes....then buy 1 more stick of 1 GB and be happy "again" ...instead of sad for blowing money in 2x512...and having to invest in 2stick of 1gb each instead of only one...i learned the lesson the hard way :(

A few years ago people were saying " a Gig of RAM...whatever for?" I remember when people were excited about 128 MB...as long as the capacity is there, people will find a way to exploit it.

There aren't any differences in performance between the single 1GB stick and the twin 512MB modules. I would go with the single stick, so you can still use the single 256MB one you have. More RAM is always better. :)
