    RAM Upgrade Clevo P650RG

    I have a Clevo P650RG and want to do a RAM upgrade.

    Currently, there are 2x16 GB RAM modules installed. I want to add one 16 GB module now and perhaps one more a year or so down the line (budget constraints).

    The laptop currently has these modules:

    The reasons I'm asking are:
    1. Physical Size (Not sure about this)
    2. CAS Latency

    I have also read that it's better to have 4 of the same RAM modules. Is this true/ false? Why/ Why not?

    If I do upgrade to 64 GB of RAM? Would I have to re-buy the same 16 GB RAM module I buy now (aka do the RAM modules have to be matched) ?

    I am also open to alternate suggestions for RAM modules which will work in my configuration and are cost effective.

    The Crucial module will run at CL18, and it will be in single channel until you add a 4th module.

    Something to be concerned about? Or am I good to go?

    Not really anything to be concerned about, just a heads-up.

    Matching would be best for compatibility yes, but I don't see why mismatched wouldn't work either, although like I said they'll be limited to the speed and timings of the slowest module.

    I would stick to the same RAM just in case you encounter compatibility issues. The G. Skill is very good and the performance gain from the Ballistics is not noticeable other than in benchmarks. Why do you need 64GB? I would assume 32GB is plenty.
    I am not sure what the BIOS is like on that model, but if you can unlock the menus, then it is possible to adjust the timings for the memory to CL16 most likely. I have the same G. Skill and they are running at 3000MHz CL16, while the specs are 2666 at CL18, but mileage may vary.

    I'm using the laptop primarily for music production and wanted to be able to load more sample libraries at once.

    On another note, I had forgotten that my RAM modules were replaced during an RMA and believe I am now running these:
    cmsx32gx4m2a2666c18 from Corsair

    A bit confused, which ones should I pick up now? Gskill or Ballistix or Corsair Vengeance?

    I would stick to the same RAM model, so the corsair vengeance, just in case there is some compatibility issues. However, most likely, as yrekabakery pointed out, any RAM should work and it will run at the lowest specs of the group.

    As per HW Info, yes I do have 2 Corsair modules currently installed.

    What I found interesting is that they are on row 0 and row 2 (not the expected row 0 and row 1).

    Does this have any implications with respect to adding new RAM?
