I want to upgrade the RAM from 3GB to 4GB - what memory chip/s (model name & number) do I need to get to make this happen? Does anyone know if the 3GB of RAM installed is in a 2 + 1GB configuration or 1.5 + 1.5GB? Your timely assistance is greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

You need DDR2 memory; any speed will do, but 667MHz is probably preferred, Since 1.5GB DIMMs don't exist, I'm assuming the default configuration is 1GB + 2GB, so you'll only need to replace the 1GB DIMM to get 4GB.

There is no 1.5 x 1.5 memory config so don't worry about that!

I suggest downloading CPUz to see the type of memory your notebook supports and buying 2 sticks of 2GB each (667 or 800 MHz will not make a difference in speed), test the new RAM with Memtest overnight and once you're satisfied its stable, sell your old (unmatched) RAM.

Remember that if you're running Windows in 32bit mode that you are probably wasting your time for a possible .5GB increase maximum over the 3GB you have already. What you might appreciate, is if your notebook supports dual channel memory (which it probably does - check CPUz), it may be slightly quicker - even if Windows can't use all 4GB of RAM.

Remember to unplug your notebook and remove the battery before changing RAM modules!

    Good luck.
