    Hello to all!

    My first post and I am already asking for some help :)

    I am the *happy* owner of a Compaq Presario 2100, 2199US. It's really great for working on campus with the wireless Internet and play some of the older games.

    But the laptop was not designed for heavy gaming I believe and as I start to play more recent games, it's really slow (such as Tribes Vengeance or Dakr Age of Camelot, let's forget about Doom III lol).

    Being not rich, I was thinking of upgrading the RAM of the laptop to boost up the overall performances. Hence the reason I ask your help.

    Is it possible to upgrade the memory RAM at home without specific tools? Which RAM should I get for my specific laptop and where can I get it? Is it hard to do it? Price wise?

    SOrry for all these questions and thanks for your help :)

    I recommend going to www.crucial.com

    They have good prices and can help you determine open slots, etc. As for tools, all you need is a phillips head screwdriver in almost all cases. It's the easiest computer upgrade you can make.

    I agree about getting ram from cruial but I just want to remind you if your computer has chared graphics like I believe it dose then it will not play Doom 3. You can play older FPS's like Quake 3 Area though.

    I would find the type of RAM from crucial, but then buy from www.newegg.com where it is cheaper.

    * Inspiron 8600c * 1.8ghz Pentium M * 128 MB Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo * 2x512 MB DDR2700 SDRAM * 60GB 7200RPM HDD *

    i have the same laptop as you and i use it quite alot for gaming and online for 12+ hours a day.
    another thing you can do to make your laptop run faster is cooling and you can get one of the cooling tool for it ( click it), i find it after i start using the laptop cooler, my laptop run faster and quiter too. also the max mb you can get for your laptop is only 1024mb (1Gb) and as other member had said cruical.com is good for buying RAM also they will tell you which type of RAM you need to get for your laptop.

    hope that help
