So I'm thinking about going from 2x1GB to 2x2GB in my older laptop. Between two options:

no. you won't notice the difference, even in synthetic benchmarks.

Go with the 5-5-5-15 ram. You will not see any performance difference between the two.

Even though my mobo probably won't support the 800, it's cheaper than the 667. -
The PC6400 memory will automatically clock down to PC5300 speeds.
