    Hey everyone

I recently got an Alienware m15x, am very pleased with it. Is soooo shiny.... anyway, I ordered some new RAM and fitted it myself as they try and rinse you on the their web site for it, £200 for 4gb! (or i guess about $400) So brought a 4gb OCZ kit for £50 Simmilar IC to the original RAM as far as i can tell. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/132901 . Any way my question is: The original RAM runs at 667mhz, the ocz RAM is 800 mhz but is running at 667 but with the timings for 800mhz. Is there any way to change the timings in windows, I have absolutly no ability to configure in the bios, Im running Vista premium 32 bit? I had a look for info on the 965 chipset, intel say it supports 800mhz ram (this is the mobile version) but Cpuz says that the ram is on a 3:5 divider, so in theroy is able to run at 400mhz on a 1:1. So is there any way to change the divider? Is really annoying that they give you soo little options is the bios, being marketed for enthausasts and gamers I would have thought they would expect you to know a little about what your are doing and not break you laptop. Can understand not unlocking the fsb, heat issues.....etc but atleast the ram settings!

Cheers for reading any any info

the i965 chipset supports a max of 667MHz ram irrespective of the FSB and the CPU....!!
I know what you are trying to do and I achieved that by getting a custom BIOS made....it is quite a hassle and since ur laptop, i presume maybe new....I would'nt advise you to flash a custom bios on it....because if anything goes wrong you would end up ruining your motherboard.. :)

Thanks for the info angad1608. Ahh....Blody Intell!Make faster chipsets damit!
What laptop have you got out of interest? Acer by anychance? ;)
Yeah you are right, it is new and im not quite up for potentially ruining it....yet. maybe in a couple of years when its had a bit of a battering. Ok, thanks. Im sure that there would not be that much performance gain over a few clks here and there, and for the potential of screwing over my motherboard, not really worth it. Not even sure where to get a custom bios from?

Well, I had bought a Dell D630 in scrap and rebuilt it....so when it came to the cpu, bought the X9000....
the X9000 has the multiplier unlocked but my stock bios didnt show anything hence I cud only overclock it through software..which wasnt really fun.. :p
So I came across BIOSMAN while googling and paid him to make me a custom bios for my D630....and he made a Proper Custom BIOS....which had all of the options unlocked as compared to the OEM BIOSs....!!
Down the line....when your laptop grows a bit old....you could try upgrading the cpu and grafix as well....and then flash a custom bios..!! :)
