    Hey all,

I've done a fair amount of research but I'd love to hear any input on this subject. Basically, which do you think would achieve better performance:

    2.2 Ghz Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM (2x2)

    or 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo with 2GB RAM(2x1)?

Assuming 32 bit os is being used, it seems only ~3GB of RAM would end up being ustilized in the first setup. Furthermore, I've heard that 2GB chips tend to have higher latency than 1GB chips. When I look at ORB most of the normal-clocked, high-end systems run 2GB.

Is this enough to tip the scales in favor of the faster processor?

That rather depends on what the system will be doing. If the applications you need to run never require more than 2GB combined, you won't gain anything from the extra ram. If you need more memory than that, even the fastest CPU won't help you because you'll be limited by excessive harddisk paging.

(Hint, for almost all PC users, 2GB is enough)

Okay, but what about in terms of a synthetic benchmark score? Which setup, other factors being constant, would you see scoring higher in 3dmark06?
