    Hello.
I just recently received an HP HDX 16t Laptop. It's equiped with 4 gigs of DD2 RAM right now. At this time I'm perfectly happy with the RAM, but I'm curious to know if there is a way i can figure out if the motherboard is compatable with DDR3 RAM

will be glad to answer any further questions
    Thanks :D

No, there is no way to use DDR3 memory.

so... if it didn't come with it, it won't work if I stick some in it?

You wont be able to fit them, the memory slots are different. DDR3 sodimm's have 204 pins compared to 200 pins for DDR2 sodimm's.

Also, even if they had the same number of pins (which as miner said, they don't), the notch in the modules is in a different place.

Many people get confused with this though, as some chipsets support both types, but just because the chipset does, doesn't mean the motherboard will.

Yes DDR3 not only uses different technology but a different pin layout which would make it physically impossible.
Yes, an SSD will be a great upgrade.

SSDs for me are just too expensive and too small. When one is released that is more than 300GB (the amount of space I am currently using on this notebook) and less than £150 then maybe I'll buy one.

Use Google shopping. Dell has the cheapest Samsung 256GB drive and usually Newegg has some good deals on others.
