    Two questions;

    1/. I have a new laptop with 2 x 256 Ram and I want to change one of them for either a 512 or a 1024. The following notation is on the existing RAM;
    256 1 x 16 PC-2 4200S 444-12-C3
    KR M470T3343C23 - CD5 0533
    Which are the relevant numbers that I need to be aware of to ensure its compatible with RAM I consider off eBay?

    2/. I want to use the old 256 chip from the above machine and put it into an old IBM T-21 alongside an existing one of 128MB. This has the following notation;
    128MB 100MHz (IBM x 64) 3.3V SN FRU 20L0256
    OPT: 20L0255 SAM
    Is this possible or advisable?

    Many thanks,
    Duncan

    OK - I called the Samsung people and the guy somewhat uncertainly said that anything with DDR2 4200 in the description would be fine.

    I've been looking on ebay and there are a few that match this but the ones I'm interested in have different speeds eg 533MHz. Is this an issue?

    About you second question - No, you cannot interchange memory from your Samsung to your IBM. Your T 21 uses DDR or maybe even older SDRAM whereas the Samsung uses DDR2. DDR2 and DDR/SD/RD RAM are not interchangable.

    There shouldnt any issues, usually if you mix 2 modules of different speeds, the faster RAM usually downclocks to the same speed as the lower speed one.
