I just ordered my vostro 1500. It has two 512s so I am definitely going to be getting it up to 2gb.
Here is the question...
Its a dell...what RAM should I buy for dell.
Second...should I get 2x1gb or 1x2gb?
Third, are there any places besides newegg I should check? Thanks all!

If you are going to sell or toss the 2X512 why not order it with only one 512?
You may save pennies by ordering from elsewhere but newegg is one of the best retailers online, IMO.
This describes the RAM needed (from the Dell site)
Memory1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM
Here's a link from newegg, filtered to show 2X1GB DDR2, 667mhz, notebook
Plenty of choices for under $90

You can't order a vostro with only one stick of 512. It is all part of the package. the biggest question is if I should do 1x2gb stick or 2x1gb stick

If you are going to stick with 2GB you should get 2X1GB, buying 1X2GB is good if you want to upgrade later no waste. Running 1X2GB is a little slower. I would buy 2X1GB myself, sometimes you have to live in the momement not the future and what if. Also there is a RAM deals section on this forum!

Could you not buy 1x2 gig and then also use 1x512 in the second slot for an extra bit of oomph?
Just a thought. -
Well not sure which Vostro model you ordered with 512MB but you can order a Vostro with 512MB (50 deduct, which would pay for over half of your 2 X 1GB upgrade or put the $50 towards the T7100). You can configure these in many ways.
