So I plan on getting the hp nc8430 http://h71016.www7.hp.com/dstore/MiddleFrame.asp?page=config&ProductLineId=435&FamilyId=1598&BaseID=18699&jumpid=re_R2515_store/smProdCat/BusinessNotebookPCs/sku_nc8430
but the version I want ($1500) only comes with 512 MB of RAM. So obviously I want to upgrade it but dont know what the best way to do it is. Should I go 1, 1.5, or 2 gigs? I want to be able to run next generation games like ut2k7. Where should I get the extra RAM? at hp or a computer site like newegg. Last question is what type of RAM should I buy?

Most people find that 1gb to be optimum for their needs. However, if you are into gaming, 2gb might help. Note that if you go with 2gb you will have to ditch the 512 that came with the laptop.
I suggest that you buy your ram from newegg or tiger direct or someone else other than HP. You can get it a lot cheaper from them compared to HP. Anyway, eve if you buy from HP, you still have to install it by yourself.
You need ddr2 200 pin sodimm. Both 533mhz and 667mhz will work. 667 will be faster but not by much. Also, if you combine 667 with the 533mhz that come with HP, it will run at 533. Good brands are, OCZ, Crucial, Corsair, Kingston and Mushkin.
Hope this helps. -
well...if buying the RAM from HP, it may be more expensive.
You can buy it from Kingston...you need this RAM:

If you really want to play next gen games well...then I highly recommend a RAM upgrade. -
