Hi there,
I wanted to upgrade my girlfriend's Lenovo 3000 N200 because it lacks RAM (it has 1 Gb and basic Vista).
I had bought Kingmax DDR2 2Gb 667 Mhz which should work just fine with this one but it didn't...
I had upgrade my notebook before so I thought I knew what I was doing.
The notebooke had had initially 2x512 Mb RAM so I've tried only to change one. I didn't believe it would work but... I didn't work. The notebook 'saw' only 512Mb.
In the second attempt I had put only the 2Gb, the notebook has started up and stuck before Windows. After a few tries I tried to enter the BIOS - I couldn't. But the notebook does recognize the RAM because on the initial black screen (with processor, HDD's and RAM) it showed the 2Gb.
Any thoughts that could help me?
Thanks a lot.

Are you sure that the notebook can really handle 2GB sticks? Seems like a big jump from 512MB stick to 2GB stick, tried 1GB sticks? I'm sure that will work better.. (2 pieces of 1GB sticks that is)

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
FWIW, the 3000 N200 does support up to 4GB of memory, so there's theoretically no reason that the 2GB DIMM shouldn't work.

Maybe this particular stick of memory just doesn't "play well" with your machine? Possibly defective? Can't really advise on what to do; try re-seating the DIMM a few times or switching the slot? Update your BIOS maybe? -
I've checked the notebook before buying RAM. It should run the 2Gb...

As I said - it DOES work. The computer recogniezes it correctly when it is put alone. The problem is that the Windows won't start properly.

My possible guess would be update BIOS as you reffer too.
I had it before he had it, i saw that he had it some weeks ago, and that he had a more cropped version of the same pic. And i know he had a different avatar before that
On the other hand, i have a feeling that i'm the guy who will be wrong anyhow because i'm not a mod -
Did you buy one 2GB stick, or a (2 x 1GB) kit?
If the latter, try using only one stick at a time (leaving the other RAM slot empty) to attempt to isolate a bad stick.
Swap the stick from slot-to-slot, as well.

The laptop uses a modern chipset, and it can run at least 2GB RAM. It should work, therefore I think there is something wrong with your RAM.
I suggest running some error checks or just send it back to the supplier for a replacement. -
What purpose does that abbreviation serve? It seems useless to me.

As Pikachu suggested,
Here's one such program:
Memtest86+
Burn it to an ISO and boot off it. It will launch before entering the OS (which, as you stated, you can't do, anyway). -
Your comment seems rather more useless and even more stupid. He's just using his own way to chat/help, if you have a problem with that, then wth are you doing on this forum?
Geez..
No, too bad for us, having to see this idiotic behavior. It doesn't serve any good means more than trying to argue with people, creating a bad mood. -
Too bad for you

It's a very common abbreviation used in IRC, usenet, BBSs, and online forums. -
Thanks StratCat, I was about to post that.
It cracks me up when people call me Pikachu!! -
RAM upgrade doesn't work:(
