I have an extensa 2900. The date on the mainboard(at least I think is the main board) is 2004-04.

The ram currently in it is a 256mb DDR. I have no idea what would happen if I try to replace it with a DDR2 RAM. Would it simply not work or will something break...... I wanted to ask for some advice before I try.

It simply won't fit because it's a different pin layout. You need to buy the appropriate ram.

Sorry but DDR2 is not backwards compatible with DDR. Even though they have the same number of pins, the notchs are in a different place so it wont fit.

You might be able to find some deals for DDR memory at the Hot ram deals thread(look towards the bottom of the first post).

Also in the future, please do not cross post(posting the same thing in mulitple forums). Find the most appropriate forum and post it there or tell an Moderator to move it.

Thanks for the advice :) and Sorry about the multiple thread  won't do it again

My RAM says DDR PC2700, can I replace it with a PC3200? That just means it'll be faster right?

NO...it means that your laptop only takes PC2700...I have them too :)

You therefore you need to look for 200pin DDR333 PC2700 :)
