    Hi guys,

First, I've tried searching for similar topic, but couldn't find the info.

I have a 5 and half year old MSI ge62 2qe ( https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GE62-2QE-Apache/Specification) that is mostly still working fine for me, but recently I've added 3rd monitor and run some more applications which seems to be too much for the 8gb RAM it came with.
I would like to upgrade it with another 8gb RAM, but as it is already quite old I hope I can get some cheap RAM for it.

I would like to ask what RAM I should choose for the laptop and if adding another stick is something I can easily do myself? I have never actually opened the case of the laptop before.

From what I see there is 8GB DDR3L 1600 in it right now. From what I see the L after DDR3 means it uses lower voltage - 1.35 instead of 1.5. I've found one Apacer 8GB DDR3 1600 that seems to have 1.35V, but no "L" in the name - is it safe to use?
Also does it matter what RAM stick I had originally installed? Won't there be any issue with the Dual-ram if I buy some random stick now?

    Thanks for help!

HWinfo64 will tell you exactly what memory you have and what speed and voltage is being used. The stick you have sounds close enough to work - I'd give it a try, then run HWinfo64 again to see the details. First boot will likely take you into the bios to identify the ram, but there may not be much in the way of settings to change. If it works, and especially if it runs in dual channel mode, that would give you a nice boost in performance. You have two memory slots, so that may be as far as you can go, per manufacturer. You might check the MSI board here to see what experience others have had. My Alienware m15x was only supposed to take 16 GB, per manufacturer. However, I, and others found that you could put 32 GB in, and Windows would find it and use it, even though the bios didn't see it.
Let us know what you learn.
