    Gday people
I haven't been in here in a while. Used to be the forge.nz but changed emails and all that , and needed this question answered without needing admin to get my old profile going.

Any way , have had my Zenbook UX32VD for just over a year and half, Decided to upgrade from 2GB to 8GB so I could play BF4 , as it wont work with 2GB needing 4GB at a minimum,
I did my research to make sure I could put 1333Mhz of 8GB RAM into it. Viewed a dude on YouTube dropping 8GB in his UX32VD using a crucial stick, he checked his BIOS , and it showed it , so it all seemed sweet.
In Aus we have corsair , so I purchased a stick of DDR3 8GB Corsair ram at a cost of 89 bucks !! . Didn't think there would be much of a difference.

Popped it in and viola ! it still showed 2GB of ram !!! Disappointing !
Researched up the problem , some said you could change the BIOS ram from 900 to 1333MHz , looked at the BIos (American Megatrends 2011) and I couldn't see any settings to that effect.
Some said you could change the msconfig , advanced settings and uncheck maximum ram allowed. It was unchecked anyway. No change.

Kind of stumped so any help would be grateful.

Try reseatting the RAM, sometimes if it's not "fully" in, it won't recognize the RAM.

I know this might sound stupid but have you tried resetting the CMOS?
Otherwise it could very well be windows, try running something like Ubunutu off a Live USB and check out how much ram it detects.

I am not sure if the 2GB integrated RAM is DDR3L (1.35V) or 1.5V. They both have to support either 1.35 or 1.5V otherwise they won't necessarily work. Also, like in my Acer AMD laptop, it will accept a 4GB module but not an 8GB one.

    Hmmm..

Try inserting the 8GB DIMM in the slot that currently holds the 2GB one and report back with the results...

    Good luck.

    Hmm I wasnt aware the UX32VD had integrated RAM. specs here at mwave.Au Corsair 8GB DDR3 1600MHz SODIMM Memory CMSO8GX3M1A1600C11 - CMSO8GX3M1A1600C11 | Mwave.com.au
Anyway just realized its 1600Mhrz DDR3 instead of 1333.I don't think 1600mhz is the problem as heaps of people have put in 8gb of ram into the UX32VD.

Hi People thanks for your advice

I just went and reinserted it and it now shows 10GB of RAM. I needed to push it in on an angle then lie it flat for it to connect properly to show 8GB + 2GB = 10 :)

Also I have had 2GB for a while and just realized my external 2Gb stick of RAM wasn't in properly either , no wonder I have had performance issues !! I totally did not realizes my laptop had integrated 2GB of RAM. SO I have been running it for weeks on only 2GB of ram.

Next time someone says ram not recognized ask them of they have pushed it in all the way. The bronze connectors should barely be showing.

    Thanks !!

it's gold. and yes, obviously the fingers need to make actual contact with the SO-DIMM.
