I've seen an offer for 2x2GB @ 36euros and I'm very tempted! I have a 1 year old Acer 5920G which has the Santa Rosa platform.

I remember people debating whether it could handle 800Mhz RAM - I think most people said 667 was the limit. That's cool - but the RAM I am going to buy is the same price for both 667 and 800 - so my question is whether having 800MHz somehow messes up the system...is 667 better for my laptop?

Hoping that Battlefield2 will run better with more RAM :)

    Cheers guys

Shouldn't have any problems as it ought to downclock itself to 667MHz. The real qustion should be, are you planning to get a new laptop sometime in the future which supports 800MHz so you can just use the RAM from your current Acer? If yes, and price is equal, then go ahead grab the 800MHz RAM. If not, stick with 667MHz. You might even be able to get it cheaper elsewhere.

As long as it's DDR2 with the 200 pins it should be backward compatible.

If you plug in 800Mhz DDR2 RAM then it will clock down to 667MHz and work, but if the price is same for 667Mhz and 800Hz then why not buy 667MHz ? Running 800MHz RAM @ 667MHz will have no improvement over standard 667MHz RAM. Most new laptops are now switching over to DDR3 (NOT compatible with DDR2), therefore no reason to buy 800MHz hoping to use with a future laptop.

Doesn't matter which you buy. Pick whichever you like. Check the company and warranty though.

Thanks for the help guys. The RAM I was looking at was from Crucial ... I think they are quite a reputable manufacturer. The 667 and 800 are the same price, but I guess I'll go for 667MHz - won't be getting another laptop for a while, so I guess it will be DDR3 by then ;)

I'd take the faster ram, because if your laptop dies in a years time and can only be used for spares, you might get a couple more bucks for the faster ram.
