I just bought a used panasonic toughbook cf-28 from ebay with 128 non removable ram and just one open slot. I put in 256 megs in the free slot but the bios is just reads it as 256 total installed. I dont have an operating system installed yet so i don't know if thats what windows will see or not.
Anyone know what would cause it to just see some but not all ram?

Try booting it without your new memory installed, and see how much it detects. It could be that the built-in RAM has failed and it's just ignoring it.

or try to check the BIOS, any item mention about the internal memory or integrated memory something like this. Try to install the windows to see how it detect the total capacity.
