My fujitsu S7020 supports DDR2-533 rams. If i swap the rams with DDR-667, will my notebook run faster or same? If i use my notebook for spreadsheet and internet surfing only, will upgrading from 1GB to 2GB make any difference in speed? What's the major difference dual-channel and not dual-channel? Which brand is best for DDR2?

No the 667 RAM shouldn't make your notebook faster, though it will probably still run. For spreadsheet and internet surfing I can't see any benefit to having an extra GB or RAM. Dual channel is an ability for some notebooks (most newer ones) to use RAM a little more efficiently if there are two sticks identical sticks of RAM. I won't go into details, but there is some slight improvement with dual channel though not much. The best brand for DDR2 where by best you mean quality/price is probably crucial though going for a cheaper brand is fine since almost all RAM will come with a lifetime guarantee.

I do hope you mean DDR2-667 otherwise the modules will be different shapes. Faster modules would only help overclocking.

Intel 915 chipsets support only 400/533 DRR2, anything faster will clock down.

For spreadsheets and internet 1G is already more than enough!

Dual channel gives aprox a 10-15% boost in memory bandwidth, but its effect is almost nonexistant, since the P-M already has enough bandwidth when running single channel DDR2.

Best RAM brands are kingston and crucial. although you might way cheaper brands that will still do the job and last a life time ... I am currently using kingmax, and have had no troubles at all.

I was just researching for the same kind of memory for my Sonoma notebook. Here's a link to help you with some of the different brands that Intel has tested with this platform. Interesting to note that different brands are using similar components.. mostly infineon, micron, elpida, hynix, samsung and nanya. Give credit to those Marketing guys, eh?

    Hey martin,

Have just ordered the 7020 with 512 Ram and strongly considering buying an other 512 mb (DDR2/533). Is it a difficult task to add a ram module, i.e. am I risking to not get the notebook back to one piece afterwards. This is my first notebook ever which should explain if the question seems stupid...
